A dentist who specializes in orthodontics is called an orthodontist. Orthodontic treatments; It is based on the principle of ensuring that the teeth move in a certain direction and speed with various orthodontic appliances by a specialist orthodontist. Thus, over time, the teeth are brought to their ideal position and misalignments are eliminated.

What is a clear plate or Invisalign treatment?

If you do not want to use traditional braces for aesthetic reasons but have a desire to have a beautiful smile, using clear aligners is a good alternative to get your teeth into the desired position in a short time. In this orthodontic treatment method called Invisalign, correction treatment is performed for the problems of crowding, congestion, sparseness, and positioning in the teeth without using braces, with the help of transparent plaques specially prepared in the laboratory.

The plates used are made of completely transparent material and have a better aesthetic appearance. The most important factor in the preference for transparent aligners by people is that they are not noticed others that they are receiving orthodontic treatment. In this method, which is popularly known as transparent braces, no wire is used.

IntroductionWhat are the advantages of clear plaque treatment?

Orthodontic treatment with transparent aligners is more comfortable than the treatment with wires called brackets. Because it does not cause side effects such as stinging, pain, and wounds in the mouth as in braces. Since the plates are made of a very soft material, they do not cause discomfort to the person.

The easy removal and insertion of transparent plaques while eating or brushing teeth offers flexible use. In this way, the person can eat whatever he wants, which is one of the greatest advantages of braces. Another big advantage is that teeth cleaning is easy. While it is difficult to clean the nutrients entering the teeth with the use of wires, the teeth can be brushed in the usual way by removing the transparent plaques. As it is known, braces are fixed and remain attached to your teeth throughout the treatment process.

It does not have a negative effect on speech and does not need to be removed in situations that require smooth speech such as presentations and meetings. For this reason, it is preferred more by individuals who think that orthodontic treatment will affect their work and school life and who need to be in contact with people frequently.

Since the plaques are transparent, the fact that they are not noticed by others provides aesthetic comfort to the person. For these reasons, it is preferred more often by adults. Although it is expensive compared to traditional wire treatment, it is more advantageous due to the convenience of the treatment and the success rate of almost 100%. In addition, in the Invisalign method, you have the opportunity to see the position of your teeth in 3D with special software before starting the treatment.

Who is the clear plate suitable for?

Transparent plaque or Invisalign treatment is a treatment method that can be applied to all children and adults who are suitable for treatment. This treatment method is suitable for those who often have moderate and mild crowding problems. It can be easily applied to individuals with reasonable abnormalities in the teeth and jaw structures. However, the fact that the teeth are very crooked does not mean that treatment cannot be applied. However, there are some tooth movements that clear plaque treatment cannot do. The only way to understand this is to talk to an orthodontist who is an expert in his field. Some of the possible conditions that cannot be treated are:

  • Having very large spaces between teeth
  • Presence of impacted teeth in the jaw bones
  • It can be listed as an abnormality in the jaw structure.

How are transparent plaques prepared?

Your dentist first evaluates whether you have a suitable tooth and jaw structure for a clear aligner. If he decides that you are a suitable candidate for treatment, he will first measure your teeth. In addition, photos and x-rays of your teeth are taken. Root angles, lengths, and positions of the teeth are examined by X-ray. Photos are used for comparison after treatment.

The data regarding the tooth dimensions are transferred to the computer using the three-dimensional scanning technique by means of special optical readers called CAD-CAM. In the computer environment, the teeth are moved by simulation, and the treatment route is determined with the planning made. Then, a series of tooth molds to be used in the treatment are produced utilizing a three-dimensional printer. The obtained 15-20 serial molds are used in the preparation of transparent plaques.

Each plate prepared in this way is used sequentially as treatment progresses. This whole process takes approximately 2 weeks and the treatment can naturally be started at the end of this period. Since plaques could only be prepared abroad, this process covered a longer period of 5-6 weeks. But now that domestic production is also possible, the production process has accelerated.

How are clear plates used?

Transparent plates are very practical to use as they can be easily removed and inserted by the patient. It is placed on the teeth, the plates cover the teeth, apply force in the desired direction and allow them to move in that direction gradually in millimeters.

The use of the plaque is extremely simple and consists of placing it in the mouth and removing it in situations such as eating, drinking, brushing, flossing. However, at this point, the patient’s compliance and active participation in treatment gains importance. Because the plaques can be easily removed by the patient, there is a possibility of disruption of use. This may adversely affect the success of the treatment.

Your dentist will usually recommend that you wear aligners for at least 20 hours a day. You may have toothache during the first few days of treatment, as the plaque will initially exert a force on the teeth. For this, you can use a pain reliever recommended by your doctor. After about 5-6 days, the pain decreases and disappears completely. The plates you use will be changed by your doctor at regular intervals, usually every 2 weeks, according to the response to the treatment.

How long does clear plaque treatment take?

The duration of treatment differs from person to person as in all other dental treatments, and the size of the problem and the patient’s compliance with the treatment affect this period. Provided that the plates are worn for at least 20 hours a day as recommended by the physician, treatment is completed in 8 to 10 months in approximately 60% of the cases. For the remaining 40%, a period of 14 months may be required. In rare cases, it may be necessary to continue treatment for up to 16 months.

Are transparent plaques harmful to health?

Transparent plates are specially produced in modern laboratories and therefore the materials from which they are produced do not contain any components harmful to health.

Will the teeth deteriorate again after the treatment?

After orthodontic treatment with braces or clear aligners, a protective thin wire is placed inside the teeth to fix the position of the teeth. In addition, your dentist will tell you how to behave after the treatment and make recommendations. If you act in accordance with the recommendations, the probability of having problems after the treatment will be very low.

At what age can children receive Invisalign treatment?

To receive Invisalign treatment, all of your child’s milk teeth must have fallen out. In addition, it is desirable to have at least the second molar tooth erupted. These correspond to approximately 12-13 years old. Accordingly, orthodontic treatment with clear aligners can be applied to any individual between the ages of 12 and 80 who meet the necessary conditions, without age restrictions.
