What are The Types of Tumors?
Tumor occurs when cells multiply uncontrollably anywhere in the body. There are two types of tumors. Some tumors grow in the same place and stay there. Some tumors grow and spread to other tissues. Some of the types of tumors are:
Neuroblastoma: This tumor usually occurs in children younger than 5 years old. Neuroblastoma is the 4th among the tumors seen in childhood. The cause of the disease is unknown. It is not an inherited disease. This type of tumor occurs as a result of disruption of the structure of the cells, as in other tumors.
Wilms Tumor: Also known as Nephroblastoma. Wilms tumor is the most common type of malignant kidney tumor in children. Wilm’s tumor is not an inherited disease. Tumor reaches large sizes before the symptoms of the disease appear.
Lymph Node Tumors: The lymphatic system is the body’s immune system. The disease can be defined as the uncontrolled growth of lymph tissue. There are two types, Hodgkin lymphoma and Non-Hodgkin lymphoma.
Glioma (Brain Tumor): It is the most common type of tumor. Brain tumors may have the following symptoms: seizures, muscle weakness, abnormal reflexes, facial paralysis and swallowing. Brain tumors are diagnosed by imaging with magnetic resonance imaging, angiography, SPECT, and computerized brain tomography.
Tumor Treatment Methods
Surgical operations: These are the methods in which tumors are removed from the body by surgical interventions. First of all, the location of the tumor in the body is determined. When necessary, holistic treatments with chemotherapy and radiotherapy are applied.
Chemotherapy: Chemotherapy is drugs that are given to patients by various methods. First of all, the location of the tumor is determined as in surgical operations. Afterwards, appropriate chemotherapy is planned and the patient’s treatment is started under the doctor’s follow-up.
Radiotherapy: It is the process of giving high-dose radiation to the patient’s tumor cells. Although radiotherapy is a treatment method alone, it can also be applied with surgical operations or chemotherapy. The patient does not feel pain during radiotherapy treatment.
